What is Reiki Therapy? How Is It Beneficial?

Reiki Therapy

Reiki therapy is a new trend nowadays. But the roots go with the Indian Buddhist. It may sound foreign concept but you may be glad to know that both civilizations are influenced by our Sanatana Dharma.

However, with time, it slowly disappeared from the world and now it is gaining back its popularity. In case you haven’t heard of Reiki, let me tell you it’s considered a pseudoscience method of treating ailments. The philosophy of Reiki uses energy also known as a life force to heal oneself or others.

In this blog, we are going for a Reiki ride in which we will talk about Reiki and how it’s beneficial. Stick to your chair and read the blog.

What is Reiki Therapy?

Reiki, the word has its origins in the two Japanese words ‘Rei’ & ‘Ki’ which means ‘universal’ and ‘energy’. Here the energy means the life force which flows through all living beings. As Reiki therapy uses the life force or Prana-Shakti to heal a patient, the Hindu-Buddhist civilization around ancient India, Japan & China considered it a holistic healing approach to treat ailments.

Reiki therapy uses energy as its only healing force. Reiki healing suggests a person is a channel of energy flow. The practitioner draws the energy from the universe and delivers it to the person. Reiki Healing uses only the gentle touch of the practitioners on their beneficiaries. The gentle touch balances the energy flow and balance of your energy in your body.

Mikao Usui developed Reiki therapy in 1920. Modern Reiki is the result of his consistent efforts of practicing it and propagating it as a treatment. However, Reiki does not support leaving all your regular medical procedures. Reiki claims to be a major healing method as Reiki compliments traditional medicine treatments and improves their working efficiency.

How Does Reiki Work?

As mentioned above, Reiki Healing uses energy to treat an ailment. Reiki philosophy says that the universal energy or Prana-Shakti is within and around us in every living being. It just passes from one to another. Reiki directs this energy and a practitioner becomes a tool for it. You don’t need to go through months with dozens of medicines. The Reiki sessions are enjoyable, peaceful, and relaxes you.

Very first a practitioner will ask you to lie down on a mat or a massage table, fully dressed. Then he/she may or may talk to you for a little while. Then he/she will start placing his/her palms on your different body parts. In Reiki Therapy, these body parts are called the energy hubs. The practitioner positions their hands in 15 different ways. Only the practitioner will decide how long they are going to keep their hands on a single position. Till they feel the flow of energy from their palms to your body, they will keep their palms in one place only.

Make note a Reiki practitioner doesn’t use pressure or give you a massage. They will only touch your body parts very gently.

Who Can Practise Reiki?

Reiki Therapy is no doctrine, unlike a traditional medical system. However, there are schools and training centers that train people in this special skill. There is also no qualification needed for this. Anyone interested can go and learn from a Reiki Master.

Anyone who has training from such an institution and completes an apprenticeship under the master’s guidance can practice Reiki. However, states do not have any kind of license system for it.

During your training period, the Reiki Master will let you go through a process named Attunement. In this process, the teacher opens up the energy channels in your body. There are three attunements that would turn you into a master.

  1. The first degree of attunement involves learning the basics of Reiki. Also after this, you will be able to practice Reiki therapy on yourself and others.
  2. Second-degree attunement trains you in distance healing. In this way, you practice healing a person without touching him/her.
  3. Third-degree attunement trains you to become a master of Reiki. After this attunement, you will be able to train others in attunement.

Before you start your training, you must do in-depth research about the institution and the trainer. Once satisfied only then you should take a leap of faith.

Does Reiki Help With Ailments?

Reiki Healing claims to heal people from almost all diseases. As it uses energy only, it then gives you the liberty of applying it to any domain of disease. However, it does not claim to be an alternative but a complementary treatment.

A few studies show that Reiki Healing helps in lowering blood pressure and balancing the heart rate. As the process goes on, the beneficiary person becomes relaxed and calm. People claim that after regular therapy sessions, they are now living a better lifestyle and feel less anxiety in them. It also improves the self-esteem of people and gives them long-term health conditions.

The studies show that Reiki is beneficial in treating anxiety, and pain, and easing depression on a much greater level when compared to placebo treatment. Placebo treatment is a fake treatment that researchers use to compare its results with the actual treatment.

However, according to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, Reiki Healing is still up to the validation mark. The results of the Reiki Healing are still of low quality and the results are inconsistent. Hence, it has got no validation from any health research institution.

Side Effects of Reiki:

Reiki is completely based on an Energy-healing philosophy. There is no use of any kind of medication (herbal or non-herbal). As a result, Reiki has no recorded side effects at all. You must not worry about any kind of side-effect at all.

What Should You Expect After a Reiki Session?

Reiki sessions are not painful. The practitioner or the healer lives in such an environment that would automatically make you feel peaceful. You may see different peaceful objects and calm music there.

After a Reiki healing session, you may feel energetic, relaxed, and less anxious. Regular Reiki healing sessions may boost your self-esteem and confidence. Also, you may get to see a drastic change in your perception of life. Many beneficiaries claim that they have gone through these kinds of experiences.

You may feel sensation, warmth, tingling, or pulsing at the places Reiki healers would place their hands. You may feel the same throughout your whole body. Many people fall asleep during the session. However, it is possible that you feel nothing at all. A Reiki session is generally 50 minutes long.

Conclusion:

We all are stuck in our daily lives so much that we have almost lost the beauty of a peaceful life. Reiki has been offering this back to the people.
